Let’s meet at Seeds&Chips!! May 8-11, 2017 / Milano

From 8th to 11th of May 2017 in Milan, the meeting dedicated to agrofood sector and to innovations in the nutrition field: “Seeds & Chips Global Food Innovation Summit”.

The event focuses on food new trends, application of new technologies to agriculture, health and nutrition, as well as on various methods for transformation and distribution.

ATPr&d is present at one of the biggest world nutrition events, thanks to the collaboration with ENEA (National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development). We will be guests in the ENEA stand to present joint projects and other activities.

Vegetable proteins

Vegetable proteins

In the last years, massive consumption of animal proteins became unsustainable for environment: for this reason it is useful to find a better use of vegetable sources and improve supply, to reduce meat consumption. Nowadays  plant sources with high protein content and an excellent aminoacidic composition compared to animal sources, such as soybean, hempseed, lupinseed, microalgae are rediscovering.

Besides nutritional value, vegetable proteins result especially interesting as biologically active peptides source: they possess scientific proved antioxidant, antihypertensive, hypocholesterolemic and antitumoral effect. The knowledge of this bioactive molecule are economically important as they could be extracted.

Insect Business – Wageningen 2016

Insect Business – Wageningen 2016

Why not explore and evaluate alternative protein sources? In Wageningen (Netherlands), we met companies and researchers who study insects, their breeding and the production on an industrial scale. The fields of application ranging from feed to food and pharmaceuticals.
The sector is growing rapidly, in particular in the north of Europe (Italy is coming) and the improvement of production technologies suggests, in the near future, the use of insects as a source of nutrients and functional ingredients. In the Netherlands, the collaboration between universities and companies is a winning combination for developing this new business. Despite many doubts and question marks on legislation and […] Read more

Free from Solvent Extraction (FFSE)

Free from Solvent Extraction (FFSE)

Nowadays, the most used method to recover oil from oleaginous seeds, consists of an extraction using different types of chemical solvents. However, to ensure human and animal welfare and the use of natural substances, it’s essential to perform more and more “green” processes. In order to satisfy these particular requests, scientists and engineers focused their attention on “free from solvent” approach as cold pressure, ultrasound/microwave and CO2 supercritical extraction methods. Therefore, it’s very important to identify alternative extractions depending on the raw material and on the final intended use of the product. The goal of a “green” extraction meets different wide markets and […] Read more

Alternative sources

Alternative sources

Protein demand for animal nutrition is increasing with the increasing world population; Europe’s main source of feed protein is soybean meal, but many alternatives are being evaluated for the future. Among these, insects are a promising one especially for their low environmental impact.

ATPr&d is interested in evaluating new protein sources and joined the “Edible Insect Seminar & Workshop” in Wageningen the last 8th and 9th December 2016.

Doctor of Philosophy is innovation: the value of PhDs in industries

Doctor of Philosophy is innovation: the value of PhDs in industries

Last November 30th ATPr&d joined the event: “Doctor of Philosophy is innovation: the value of PhDs working in industries”. In that occasion it was pointed out that PhDs are the fast track to bring scientific knowledge into industries to turn them into product, process and management innovation.

Industrial careers for PhDs demonstrate that this approach is achievable by all businesses, regardless of the company size.

The seminar showed why doing a doctorate is worth (for young people) and why hiring a PhD is a virtuous strategic choice (for businesses).
